Ireland sealed third place in Group B of the World Deaf Futsal Championships with an emphatic 5-1 win over Turkey, with Catherine Grier of Bonagee United on the mark.
Grier is joined by Teegan O'Reilly from Dunbar United at the tournament, which is taking place at Montesilvano, Italy.
Ireland finished in third place in Group B with three points, having lost 6-0 to reigning European Champions Spain and then narrowly to 2023 World Cup finalists Brazil on a 2-1 scoreline, where Grier was also a goalscorer.
The top two from each of the three four-team groups qualify for the knockout stages, so Ireland have to wait on other results to see if they will remain in the competition. Against Turkey, Bekah Grant opened the scoring and it was 1-1 at the break before Ireland ran riot in the second half with Grant scoring again, Grier getting to and Nathalie O'Brien also finding the net.
The team will be keeping a close eye on the results from groups A and C, and praying they have done enough to earn a quarter-final place.
