Mark Coyle of Shelbourne in action against Linfield
Mark Coyle was the winning captain in a Champions League match as his Shelbourne side defeated Linfield in the first qualifying round first leg.
The Burt native led his team out for the clash between the League of Ireland champions and the Irish Premiership champions, which ended in a 1-0 win for the hosts in a sold-out Tolka Park.
With the game deadlocked at the break, Ademipo Odubeko's goal just before the hour mark was all that separated the sides as Coyle played the full 90 minutes.
It was just a second win for new Shelbourne manager Joey O'Brien, who took over from his former Republic of Ireland teammate Damien Duff, after the boss resigned last month.

Shelbourne will need another result next Wednesday in Windsor Park in the second leg if they are to advance to the second qualifying round, with the winners of that tie facing Azerbaijan champions Qarabag.
Coyle becomes the first Donegal man to feature in a Champions League qualifying match in almost six years since his neighbour, Georgie Kelly, who came off the bench for Dundalk in 2019 as they drew 1-1 with Qarabag in Oriel Park in 2019.
