Letterkenny Rovers football club was honoured with a civic reception in Letterkenny Public Services Centre following their memorable 2024/25 season.

The senior side, managed by Stephen McConnell, won a domestic treble, without losing a game. That was made up of their clinching of the Donegal League Premier Division title, victory in the Ulster Junior Cup when they defeated Kildrum Tigers 1-0 in the final before claiming the Brian McCormick Sports Cup with an extra-time 2-1 win over Castlefin Celtic, having come out on top in the Letterkenny Area to reach the last four.

The civic reception was attended by members of Letterkenny Rovers, Chairman Eamonn McConigley, local councillors and Minister of State at the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport, Charlie McConalogue.

“I think one thing with the Rovers is you have always had great people over the years,” said Ciaran Brogan, Cathaoirleach of Letterkenny-Milford MD. “We’re delighted with the facilities you have there for the people of Letterkenny. That doesn’t happen by accident, that happens with a lot of people over the years. It’s important for us to recognise that development.

“Letterkenny Rovers has had some magnificent people over the years who wore that blazer, wore that jersey, wore that tie on some great occasions.

“To each and every one of you, be very proud this evening because now you are the custodians, you’re carrying that on and I think this is a special occasion for us as a council.”

Stephen McConnell, current Letterkenny Rovers manager said: “Thank you for this tremendous honour. We’re very grateful for all the support we get from you.

“These players are not just champions. They’re role models for young people in the club and in the community.

“What makes this team so special is the people within it. Some of these boys have grown up together from underage teams right through the club. Others have joined along the way and strengthened the team with their talent and commitment. Together they’ve built a bond which reflects everything our club stands for.

“Looking ahead, our ambition remains the same. To keep improving our facilities and continue building for the future.”
