Finn Harps Under-17s lifted the National LOI Academy Shield title on Wednesday night with a 3-0 win over Drogheda United.

It was third against first in the Tier Two North section as the Harps finished three points behind the Louth side, but wins over Waterford and Shamrock Rovers in the quarter-finals and semi-finals were met with the reward of a home final as the pair met in the Letterkenny Community Centre.

And in a toughly contested game, the hosts were on top and they took the lead in the first half as Leighton Green headed in from a Jack O’Donnell cross.

Conrad Clarke’s side went two ahead after a throw-in was headed out to the corner of the box but only to Caolan McBride who fired low into the far corner.

And Ronan Buchanan made it three in stoppage time as captain Rowan McGroarty won possession high up and played in the substitute, who shot low and under the Drogheda goalkeeper.

Finn Harps: Ryan McConnell; Rowan McGroarty, Jack O’Donnell, Peter Sweeney, Caolan McBride, Leighton Green, Gavin Friel, Declan Patton, Guilherme Tavares, Luke Doherty, Odhran McHugh.

Subs used: Sean Dolan, Ronan Buchanan, Eamonn MacBride, Enda Duddy, Oisin Ebbs.
