Ed Wickes got an early Christmas box when he bagged the top prize in the 2025 Bonagee United Development Draw.

The draw was held on Saturday evening at the Clanree Hotel - just over 24 hours after Bonagee United’s participation in the new National League, the third tier of Irish football, was confirmed by the FAI.

The club’s annual draw saw 10 top prizes and Ed Wickes, from Drumardagh, Letterkenny was the winner of the cool €3,000 cash prize.

Ed received his prize from sellers Damien Callaghan and Charlie Patton.

The draw took place with the Dry Arch Park toasting their acceptance into the National League, which will kick off with a short season in August 2026 before moving to a full season in 2027. Bonagee are one of 15 clubs who have been announced for the new grade.

“This is a truly historic day for Bonagee United,” club Chairman Niall Callaghan said.

“Being accepted into the National League is the culmination of years of hard work, vision, and belief from everyone involved with the club.

“Our volunteers, supporters, and community have built something special at Dry Arch Park - and now we have the opportunity to showcase that on the national stage.

“We are excited for what lies ahead and determined to represent our community with pride.”

Bonagee United senior men’s team manager Michael Funston said the news brings great excitement to his squad.

He said: “It’s an incredible moment for the club and for football in the area. We’ve been building steadily on and off the pitch, and this move gives our players and the club a platform to compete at a higher level and continue their development.

“The challenge will be big, but so is the ambition within this club. We can’t wait to get started and see what Bonagee United is capable of.”
