The Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair ladies have gone back-to-back in the FAI Schools Senior 'B' Girls National Cup.

The Donegal school defeated St Peter’s Community School, Passage West, 4-0 in the Athlone Town Stadium.

They had the perfect start to their title defence, opening the scoring after three minutes as a throw-in down the left saw the ball cut back to Lily Nic Ruairi, who fired in towards the near post.

It stayed 1-0 at the break, but there was a bit of déjà vu with the second Gaoth Dobhair goal.

They nearly doubled their lead just before it as Nic Ruairi chased a long ball and rounded the St Peter’s goalkeeper, but she was beaten to the ball by a defender for the opposition, who cleared it out for a throw-in

But that throw on the left seven minutes after the restart was played to Maryanne Nic a Bhaird, who curled a super strike from well outside the corner of the box into the far corner of the net.

It got even better for the side as Nic a Bhaird won possession back high up and beat three players before crossing low past the goalkeeper, setting up an easy tap-in for Aoife Nic Aoidh on 67 minutes.

And they sealed their victory three minutes from the end, as a clearance from the Gaoth Dobhair box was chased by the pacey Nic Ruairi, who ran from halfway and held off the defender before slotting in at the near post.
