Fintan Doherty has signed for NIFL Championship table-toppers Limavady United.

The Letterkenny shot-stopper played Gaelic football last season but is now back in the world of soccer. Doherty was with Bonagee United's academy before moving to Derry City, where he stayed until 2024, when he made the move to Institute FC.

Doherty boasts quite the resume for a 21 year old, having represented Ireland at underage level alongside the likes of Watford star, Rocco Vata, and highly rated striker Mark O’Mahony.

Limavady United manager Paul Owens is glad to welcome Doherty to the team after losing their previous 'keeper, Richard Purcell.

Manager Owens said on the acquisition of the Letterkenny man: "With the change in work and circumstances of Richard Purcell, the club had to act quickly, and when Fintan became available he was a superb option.

“Fintan is just getting back into football after having a spell with Donegal GAA. We thank Institute for their understanding and making the deal happen."

Convoy native Michael Harris currently plays for the Roesiders, and Doherty will be hoping to make a first start in the Irish Cup against Linfield on Friday night.
