Finn Park will have a name change before Finn Harps plan to move into a new stadium.

Planning permission was granted for the Donegal Community Stadium in Stranorlar back in December.

Harps have launched a new venture, ‘Name The Park’, a stadium naming initiative that will give one entrant the right to choose a new name for Finn Park for the Navenny Street venue’s final chapter as a League of Ireland stadium.

“The club is inviting supporters, businesses and members of the global Irish community to become part of its story by putting their chosen name on the ground,” Harps said.

“Planning permission has been granted for a new stadium, and the naming draw is intended to mark the closing chapter at the current ground before any future move.

“The winning entry could: Honour a favourite Harps legend; celebrate a loved one; showcase your business on a historic stage; spread awareness for a charity that is close to your heart; or create a name that reflects your own story.”

Harps say that the winning name will be subject to the club’s terms and conditions.

The closing date for entries is open until May 22, 2026 and the winner will have naming rights of the stadium until the end of the 2027 season.

A new stadium for Harps was first mooted at the AGM following the club’s promotion-winning season in 2004.

However, the plans have hit a series of road blocks and delays in the intervening years, with Harps currently requiring a derogation from the Football Association of Ireland to play at Finn Park.

Donegal County Council granted planning permission for the completion of the stadium in December 2025.

After that granting, Harps said that there were “a small number of matters” to be resolved before construction will recommence.

“Subject to the completion of these steps and the outcome of the appeals process, the club’s ambition is to be in a position to commence works during 2026, with an indicative target of being on site in spring of that year,” said a statement at the time.
