Michael McColgan was on the scoresheet for the Republic of Ireland as they defeated Sweden 2-0 in a friendly in the Netherlands.

The Muff native started the match in Zeist and scored in the second half, firing home from close range for the second and final goal of the game after Cormac Lowry opened the scoring.

It was a second appearance of the friendly series for the Derry City underage striker, who came on as a substitute in another 2-0 win over Denmark last Friday.

Ireland will conclude their friendly series against the Netherlands on Tuesday in Hattem at 1.30pm.

The tournament is being utilised by participating nations as a development-focused ‘Futures Event’.

Ireland’s approach centres on supporting ongoing development within the player pathway, with a squad that combines players who have already gained international experience with others being brought into the environment for the first time. The aim is to introduce players to different challenges and roles as part of their progression.

Of the 19-player squad, 18 currently play in the League of Ireland.
