The sun shone brightly as Copany Rovers celebrated 25 years of Donegal League football at their grounds at Killowen Park, just outside Laghey, yesterday.

Past players, supporters and officers mingled as they gathered to watch the highlight of the day, a local selection led by Thomas Given, a Copany player for all of that period, and a Finn Harps side.

Former Donegal League supremo Joe Duffy was there to present the match ball and the league was also represented by Terry Leyden. Duffy had been present when Copany opened Killowen Park.

Among the guests on the occasion were former players and All-Ireland winners Joyce McMullan and Matt Gallagher.

For the occasion the club produced a book, which was launched on the day, which chronicles the history of the club prior to its introduction to organised football.

It also gives a full record of the side in the Donegal League from their very first season and names that spring from the pages include Francie Johnston and John Joe Travers.

There is a great pictorial record covering the period and also a great section on the underage section of the club.

The book will be a great record for the area and also for the Donegal League and Copany Rovers are to be commended for producing it.

They couldn’t have organised things better as regards the weather which really put a final gloss on a special day.
