Gavin Mulreany will take a step into the unknown on Friday night as Finn Harps kick off their new season at home to Drogheda United in the League of Ireland Premier Division.

The Inver goalkeeper is among a host of new faces to have joined the Ballybofey outfit - and he says he’s really looking forward to what’s an exciting new challenge.

“I have been given the chance and I can’t wait for the season to start,” Mulreany said this week. “I have played gaelic and soccer my whole life, but never at this level. So it’s something I’m really looking forward to.”

The only downside for the former Donegal Town FC keeper is that he will have to put his club career with St. Naul’s on hold - for the time being at least.

“Everyone at home has been very supportive,” he said. “It’s a loss leaving the gaelic and I’ll miss it a lot. But this is something I’ve wanted to try. No team is built around one player. St Naul’s have a massive season ahead of them. They’ll not be wanting to shy away from anything this year. St Naul’s have done a lot for me over the years so hopefully I will get back to them at some stage.”
