Uisce Eireann have told Donegal Live that repairs to a sudden burst water main may cause supply disruptions to Bundoran and surrounding areas today, but it appears to have caught many unawares.

They said:

"Crews are on the ground working to restore normal water supply as quickly as possible to impacted customers.

"Works are scheduled to take place until 4pm on 27 November.

"We understand how disruptive bursts are and we regret the inconvenience caused. We would like to thank impacted customers in the Bundoran area for their patience while we work on repairs and restore the water supply as quickly as possible.

They added: "Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications from us for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.

Both St Macartan's National School in Bundoran and Bundoran Community Centre were closed at short notice this morning, as a result of the outage, which most people were totally unaware of. The local GP surgery Bayview Practice remains open, but is also understood to be without water.

Shorty after 10am, Magh Ene College also confirmed that they would be closing within the hour.

Other communications from Uisce Eireann would appear to indicate that it will be 6pm before supplies are restored.

Local Councillor Michael McMahon said that the situation arose suddenly in the middle of the night when the main water supply for the Bundoran area and parts of Ballyshannon was cut as a result of a burst main water pipe, which supplies the area.

"This was an emergency situation and was not planned and the Uisce Eireann crews have been working around the clock to restore supplies as soon as possible. This is a most unfortunate situation and I would appeal for people to conserve water in their holding tanks until the return of supplies and be aware of air locks as well."

The Uisce Éireann customer care helpline is open 24/7 on 1800 278 278 and customers can also contact us on Twitter @IWCare with any queries. For updates, please visit the Supply and Service Updates section of our website.

Theyrecommend that users allow 2-3 hours after the estimated restoration time for your supply to fully return.
