Killybegs Coast Guard Unit’s Ronan McFadden has stepped down from the position of Officer In Charge, with Amay Conneely stepping into the role of Acting Officer in Charge.

Phil Maloney will take the position of Acting Deputy Officer in Charge, although Ronan will remain in the unit as a volunteer having initially joined the unit in October 2010 and quickly rose through the ranks becoming a climbing instructor, boat crew and boat Coxswain.

“Ronan had further ambitions and then became Deputy Officer In Charge and lastly Officer In Charge,” Killybegs Coast Guard Unit posted. “Fadgine - as he is affectionately known - will be remembered as a very formidable OIC, he is cool, calm and more than capable of any task that came his way.

“We would like to extend our gratitude to Ronan for all he has done for the Unit during his tenure here. He has kept the standards high and this is a reflection of his dedication and commitment to the Killybegs Unit. We would like to wish Ronan all the best in his new position within the Irish Coast Guard.

“Our present Deputy Officer In Charge Amay Conneely will now become Acting Officer In Charge. We wish both Amay and Phil well in their new temporary positions and they can both be assured that the usual high standards will be adhered to.”
