Finn Valley AC athlete Teresa Doherty led the way with an individual gold at Tollcross Park in Glasgow on a day when several Donegal athletes were toasting team medals

Teresa Doherty scores superb win at British and Irish Masters Cross Country

Teresa Doherty won gold at the British and Irish Masters Cross Country Championships on Saturday.

The Finn Valley AC athlete was the leading W45 to take an impressive win at Tolcross Park in Glasgow.

Doherty took the race by the horns at the outset and was a strong winner in a little over 21 minutes.

Back in 2018, the Kinlough woman was the W40 winner at the same Championships in Swansea.

On Saturday, Doherty won from Letterkenny AC’s Natasha Adams with the Irish team taking the team golds. Zoe Quinn in ninth was the third scorer alongside Doherty and Adams. Finn Valley AC woman Catriona Devine was 13th in the W45 race.

Ciaran McGonagle of Letterkenny AC was the M45 bronze medallist and his run helped take the Irish team to silver medals. McGonagle in third was backed up by Maurice McMahon, David Kirwan and John Dunne.

The M45 winner was Jan Bailey from England with Jim Tole of Scotland second.

Finn Valley AC’s Jon-Jo Doherty came eighth in the M35 race, where Ireland left with team silver. Doherty was just behind Kenneth Rogers, John Lenehan and Pat Fitzgerald who were fifth, sixth and seventh.

Kay Byrne of Finn Valley AC was fifth W60 and earned a team silver. Byrne was in between Niamh O’Sullivan, who was second, and the tenth-placed Ireland Clements.

Pauric McKinney and a fine outing to finish second in the M55. The Inishowen AC man’s performance was instrumental in Ireland bagging the team bronze, while Martin Kerr of Milford AC was tenth M70 and also took a team bronze.
