1.11pm - Glenfinn Day Centre Quiz due to take place on Friday has been cancelled, and will take place instead of Friday, January 17

1.10pm - St John Bosco Centre Donegal Town announces that Thursday evening's bingo is cancelled

12.50pm - Four Masters GAA Club announce cancellation of Tuesday evening's Walk With Us event from Supermac's to Tír Chonaill Park and back due to the weather conditions. It will instead take place next Tuesday, January 14. 

12:45pm - Motorists are reporting that a lorry has gone off the road between Killygordon and Stranorlar

10:50am - Snowfall in parts of south Donegal is leading to slippery conditions

10:40am - Motorists report that there are still patches of black ice lingering in Barnesmore Gap from the heavy freeze overnight

10:20am - Cllr Brian Carr reports: "The road is passable but very slippery. If it’s not essential, it’s best to avoid traveling."

9:44am - Bus Feda have told commuters to expect delays: "Our 964 Donegal to Galway Service is severely delayed due to traffic congestion into Letterkenny. At this stage we cannot update you with a departure time from Letterkenny. As soon as we know we will post on socials."

9:15am - Route 971 - the 9.05am from Letterkenny is cancelled, TFI Local Link Donegal Sligo Leitrim have confirmed. The service will not serve Churchill or Drumacanoo until further notice

9:10am -  Watson Hire, Letterkenny have posted: "Be careful this morning. Light covering of snow on ground. Roads around Letterkenny are ok if you're careful. Gritters are out around town too."

9:05am - "Just had some snow in Ballyshannon but seems to be melting immediately so all fine here so far," a Facebook follower has shared

9:01am - "Be aware of this large puddle on Culmore road," Craic on Muff Facebook has posted. "Drive with care on all roads today."

8:58am - Meenaroy Update: "Conditions are poor, and cars are struggling to reach Meenaroy from the Fintown side. Currently, about 12–15 vehicles are stationary. The gritter made another pass at 8:40am. Drive safely!"

8:50am - Some 316 customers are without electricity in Kerrykeel, with 30 more in Illies, Buncrana. ESB say: "We apologise for the loss of supply. We are currently working to repair a fault affecting your premises and will restore power as quickly as possible."

8:46am - A car is overturned at the Slab Road, Burnfoot

8:45am - Meenaroy at approximately 8:30am - "avoid if possible"

8:43am - Wonder Years Childcare have issued this warning: "Folks them roads are absolutely treacherous this morning, I had to pull off the road three times and that was on the main Lifford to Letterkenny road. Black ice and extremely no visibility during the snowstorm, roads nare ot yet gritted but hopefully they will be. Please exercise extreme caution"

8:41am  - Reports that the back road at Errigal is particularly bad around Dunlewey, with some motorists making the choice not to try and proceed through

8:30am - Donegal's weather warning status is expected to move up to an orange warning, with snow expected until Friday

8:26am - The road between Castlein and Donneyloop is "like glass" so be very careful

8:24am - Barnesmore has been described as "not great" but "passable with care"

8:20am - The following schools are closed: Scoil Cholmcille Drumman; Killygordon Playgroup; Glencovitt National School; Milford National School; Learn’N’Play Preschool, LK CDP; Dromore National School; Dooish National School; Sessiaghoneill National School; Kerrykeel National School; Portlean National School

8:18am - Michael Friel Coaches in Letterkenny have made the decision that school buses are cancelled this morning

8:15am - There are reports of a collision between two vehicles in Glencar, Letterkenny, which is adding to delays

8:13am - Cars are stuck coming both ways - going into and coming from Meenaroy on the Fintown side

8:09am - Naomh Bríd GAA club say their walking is closed due to the yellow weather warning in place until Thursday, keep an eye on their social media for updates on when the track will re-open

8:07am - Learn n Play preschool in Letterkenny, will remain closed today due to dangerous conditions on the roads and footpaths at the preschool

8:05am - Frosses to Glenties at 6:50am this morning

8am- An Garda Siochana, Donegal have warned:"When temperatures dip below freezing, driving conditions can become treacherous. Please check that your lights and tyres are in a safe & working condition before setting off on your journey. If you're driving on icy roads, please drive slowly in the highest gear possible, manoeuvre gently and avoid harsh braking."

7:55am - Carrigans, Killea & St Johnston Community Crime Alert have shared on Facebook: "Roads are treacherous this morning particularly on the main Lifford to Letterkenny road. Black ice and poor visibility during the snow.


"Roads reported as gritted from 6am with main roads taking priority. Minor and side roads presume not gritted this will be obvious from the road conditions observed. Reports of poor driving and pedestrian conditions in Derry City. Drivers are advised to exercise extreme caution and only travel if necessary. Keep an eye on Social media News & Radio for any Bus cancellations or school closures. Please check in with any elderly or vulnerable neighbours as the cold spell is expected to last until Friday."

7:52am - The Danske Bank MacRory Cup quarter-final clash between Abbey Vocational School and St Colman’s College, Newry, originally set for Wednesday evening in Conovy, was postponed last night

7:50am - Conditions this morning at Errigal were described as being very difficult: "Back of Errigal this morning at 6am, avoid if possible".

Another said: "Some reports in this morning regarding the roads behind Errigal Road are very bad behind Errigal, avoid them if possible. They had to turn back, it's like compacted ice as opposed to snow and a hail shower started then on top of it all.

7:49am - Another follower said of Barnesmore: "The gap isn’t great - just take it easy"

7:47am - A follower on DonegalLive's facebook said of late last night: "Meenaroy the whole way through to Fintown was crazy at 1am so much snow just about got through back of Errigal wasn’t much better".

7:45pm - Letterkenny-based McGettigan Travel will not be operating today. They said: "Following our inspection of the estates this morning, we've decided not to operate our services. The roads and estates are extremely hazardous due to black ice and snow and with the temperatures we experienced this morning, there is a likelihood that they will refreeze. Apologies for this.
