Donegal County Council’s Severe Weather Assessment Team has been monitoring the storm’s approach over the weekend and will continue to track local conditions as Storm Floris moves through
With the arrival of Storm Floris, Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow Rain and Wind warning for Donegal, forecasting wet and unseasonably windy conditions from Sunday night into the Public Holiday on Monday.
A Yellow Rainfall warning is in place from 2am to 10am on Monday, with spells of heavy rain expected, accompanied by a chance of thunder. The potential impacts include difficult travelling conditions, lightning-related damage, and localised flooding.
In addition, a Yellow Wind warning has been issued for the same day, in effect from 4am until 4pm. Winds are expected to create dangerous driving conditions and may affect outdoor events. Structural damage, fallen trees, power outages, flying debris, and wave overtopping along coastlines are all possible. Flooding could be worsened by blocked drains caused by fallen leaves and other debris.

Authorities are urging the public to take precautions during this period of unsettled weather. Drivers are asked to take extra care on the roads, especially around pedestrians and cyclists. The public is also being warned to avoid coastal areas, with the Irish Coast Guard reminding people to “Stay Back, Stay High, Stay Dry.”
Event and festival organisers are advised to ensure any temporary structures are securely installed and to keep a close eye on weather updates. Campers and caravan users should also monitor the forecast closely and select sheltered locations, steering clear of exposed hillsides or cliff-top sites.
Met Éireann will continue to provide the latest weather information through its website, social media platforms, and news outlets. The public is encouraged to check www.met.ie for the most current updates.
ESB Networks is also alerting the public to the dangers of fallen live wires. Any such incidents should be reported immediately, and people should stay well clear. The ESB emergency contact number is 1800 372 999, and real-time power restoration updates can be found at www.PowerCheck.ie.
