A sharp drop in temperatures is set to grip Donegal, with Met Éireann issuing a nationwide Status Yellow alert for low temperatures and ice.
Forecasters are warning of a significant freeze starting Friday, February 13, at 9pm, with conditions expected to remain hazardous until at least 10am on Saturday.

Across Donegal, temperatures are predicted to plummet to between -1 and -3 degrees. This cold snap, following a period of persistent rain, creates a high risk of black ice on roads and "treacherous" conditions underfoot.
Clear skies overnight will allow for a sharp frost to develop quickly, making untreated surfaces particularly dangerous for late-night commuters and early Saturday travelers.
Local authorities are advising motorists to take extreme caution, particularly on secondary roads and higher ground where ice may linger longer into the morning. Potential travel disruptions are expected, and public transport users are encouraged to check for service updates. Pedestrians are similarly urged to be mindful of slippery footpaths and "black ice" that may not be visible in the dark.
While the worst of the freeze is expected to thaw by Saturday afternoon as temperatures rise toward 5 or 6 degrees, the window of the alert covers the peak of the weekend's travel period. Residents are reminded to check on elderly neighbors and ensure that outdoor pets are protected from the sub-zero chill.
