Storm Austen is expected to bring strong winds and heavy rain to Donegal

Donegal is set to be affected by a Yellow Wind Warning as Storm Austen brings heavy rain and strengthening winds across Ireland.

Met Éireann has issued the warning for the county, with the alert coming into effect at 7 pm on Thursday, October 22, and remaining in place until 10 am on Friday, October 23.

A yellow rain warning is also in place for Donegal, valid from Thursday, October 22 at 7 pm until Friday, October 23 at 8 am.

Heavy rain associated with Storm Austen is expected to spread eastwards across the country, while strong easterly winds will turn northwesterly and strengthen further.

Donegal residents are being advised to be aware of the potential impacts of the unsettled weather.

Met Éireann has warned that difficult travelling conditions are possible, with localised flooding also a risk in affected areas.

The strong winds could also impact outdoor events, while loose objects and debris may be displaced. Some fallen trees and branches are also possible.

Motorists in Donegal are urged to take extra care during the warning period, particularly when travelling on exposed roads and routes where fallen branches or other debris may pose a hazard.

Residents are also advised to secure loose items outdoors ahead of the arrival of the strongest winds.
