Mary from Dungloe Arts Festival inundated with escort requests

A social media post requesting escorts for the Mary from Dungloe Arts Festival (MFDAF) received such an overwhelming response, from around the country, that organisers say each Mary could have had two escorts.

The Mary from Dungloe Arts Festival runs from Friday, July 29 until Monday, August 7. There have been many new aspects introduced to the festival this year which will ensure it will be as popular as ever.

Gavin Boyle of the organising committee said: “After our post on social media looking for escorts, we have been inundated with interest from guys around the county and country.”

He spoke about the responsibilities that escorts have during the festival: “Being an escort is always an interesting job and has its responsibilities, we would like the guys to look after their Marys for the duration of the festival. There is always good banter with the other guys and the Marys throughout the week.”

The escorts will not know who they are matched up with until Thursday night next week.

Their duties include attending and escorting the Marys to the Gala Ball on Friday night, mixing and interacting with who they have been matched up with, dancing, being part of the Marys experience at the Carnival Parade and one of the nicest duties escorting them on stage at the Crowning Cabaret on Sunday night. 

There will also be a prize given to the Escort of the Year at the Crowning Cabaret, voted by all our Marys. 

The escorts can also enjoy some leisure time as MFDAF organisers have surfing and Kayaking booked for them on Saturday with Carrickfinn Watersports as a token of their gratitude for all they do.

Mr Boyle said: “We just needed ten guys this year as some of the Marys are bringing their boyfriends as their escorts but with the response we could have easily given each Mary 2 escorts.”
