Free photography exhibition called the People of Muff in Muff coffee shop

The exhibition is being run by Jay Doherty who is a photographer. It is a celebration of the local characters that Jay has met since he lived in Muff over the last 20 years.

Jay had been thinking about this project for years. He came across a project online called the Humans of New York. 

“It was just a photographer with people he encountered on the streets of New York” continued Jay.

“He just asked them about their stories and their lives. I just thought it would be brilliant to do something like that in the village of the local people.”

“Ask them about their life and try and photograph their lives and characters into the photos. I finally got it done. It’s a work in progress, I’ve got plenty more to do.”

A selection of the photos

The photos are of well known and well loved people in the village. They are community leaders, characters and musicians.

The exhibition takes place in Tanks and Skinny’s on the main street. The reason for this is Jay wanted to exhibit in the local coffee shop because everyone can see it.

“Art galleries are lovely places but they don’t just attract everyone. This can attract anyone from the local village or on the street. If people call in for a coffee, they will be able to see and enjoy the photos.”

“It’s important that it isn’t hidden away in some art gallery where nobody can see it.”

The exhibition is hoping to run for at least another three months.
