Organisers are reporting record-breaking entry numbers for this year’s competitions
One of Ireland’s longest-running agricultural showcases returns this summer, as the Ardara Show 2025 takes place on Saturday, August 9, at Pearse Memorial Park (F94 V978).
First held in 1904, the event has grown into a much-anticipated highlight of Donegal’s summer calendar, drawing thousands each year with its unique blend of tradition, entertainment, and community spirit.
Organisers are reporting record-breaking entry numbers for this year’s competitions - a sure sign of the show’s enduring popularity and continued relevance in today’s rural life.

Show Chairman Michael extended his thanks to the event’s returning main sponsor, Ardara Distillery, home of Sliabh Liag Distillers, and noted a new milestone for the local brand:
“We are delighted to have Ardara Distillery back as our main sponsor. It’s especially fitting that their state-of-the-art distillery is built on what we still proudly call The Show Field, which hosted this event for many years. We’re thrilled they’ve also chosen this year’s show to launch their new Ardara Whiskey.”
The show offers a packed programme with something for everyone—from livestock and equestrian competitions to vintage vehicles, artisan food and craft stalls, and children’s entertainment.
Show Secretary Tracey McGill commented, “Entries are up over 25% this year compared to last, which really reflects the incredible dedication of our committee in putting together such a well-run show. It’s fantastic to see every section so strongly supported—it truly makes for a great day out. We’re also delighted to welcome back the Horse and Pony classes after a two-year break, and the response has been heartening. It’s a great foundation to build on for next year.”
Animals take centre stage, with judging in horses, ponies, cattle, and sheep, alongside the crowd-favourite dog show. Competitions range from local classes to national and championship levels, highlighting the best of Irish breeding and farming skill.
Families can enjoy free children’s entertainment, including comedy magic shows, bouncy castles, and a full programme of children’s sports. McCormack’s Fun Fair returns this year with more attractions, and the Mid-West Donegal Vintage Club will once again present their popular Vintage Show, offering a nostalgic glimpse into times past.
Food lovers will find plenty to enjoy at the Food Court in the GAA Clubhouse, serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks throughout the day. A fully licensed bar will open after judging, with live music setting the mood and a few surprise performances expected as well.
The day will also feature some traditional competitions with a twist, including the Mini Digger Challenge, Tug o’ War, and the ever-popular Tossing the Shear—guaranteed to entertain and crown new local champions. Admission is €15 per adult; children go free. Parking is free on-site and across town, with clearly signposted Park & Ride options
With the forecast looking favourable and excitement building, the Ardara Show 2025 is shaping up to be a memorable day out for all ages. Whether you're there for the farming, the fun, or the food, Ardara is the place to be this August.
