People across Donegal are supporting Daffodil Day, be it by volunteering or by making a donation.
The Daffodil Day campaign by the Irish Cancer Society is taking place nationwide on Friday, March 20, and support is needed more than ever. Among those lending a hand are Aine Neilan, Holly Blanc and Zara Brennan, students from Colaiste Cholmcille, Ballyshannon, pictured above.
Anyone who wishes to donate can do so via collections on street and in shopping centres nationwide, via cancer.ie, or on the Revolut app.
A spokesperson for the Irish Cancer Society said: “This is the Irish Cancer Society’s most important Daffodil Day yet and we are asking Ireland to go all in to support cancer patients and their families across the country.

“We typically only receive 5% of our funding from the Government, so we need to raise €30 million to provide our key support services and fund our life-changing cancer research. This is powered by the generosity of the public. We need this support to ensure no child or adult has to face cancer alone.”
Last year, the Irish Cancer Society Transport Service, which brings patients to and from cancer treatment across the country, delivered almost 30,000 free lifts for cancer patients. This service is particularly important in Donegal where public transport is limited.
The spokesperson continued: “Our Freephone Support Line and in-hospital Daffodil Centres provided over 26,000 comforting conversations – offering advice, support and information for anyone affected by cancer.
“Our free nationwide counselling service provided over 14,300 free counselling sessions to help people cope with a cancer diagnosis in their life. In addition to this, almost 6,000 nights of palliative Night Nursing/ end-of-life care were given to patients so they could pass away in the comfort of their homes, surrounded by their loved ones.”
