McGarvey and O’Donnell named in the Republic of Ireland U17 squad

The pair will look to help Ireland qualify for the U17 European Championships for a 14th time
Donegal duo Charlie McGarvey and Jamie O’Donnell have been named in the Republic of Ireland Under-17 squad for their upcoming UEFA European Under-17 Championship Round 1 qualifiers.
The pair, who both play for Sligo Rovers, were selected for John Cotter’s 20-man squad for three games against Estonia, Wales and Denmark.
McGarvey, a Letterkenny native who played for Illistrin and Finn Harps before moving to Sligo, signed a professional contract with the club in June.
Goalkeeper McGarvey has yet to make a senior appearance, but has been on the bench for the first team on a number of occasions and started for their Under-17s and Under-20s throughout the season.
Buncrana native O’Donnell, formerly of Cockhill Celtic, joined Sligo Rovers on a long-term contract from Derry City in July.
O’Donnell has already played for the senior team, making his debut the same week he signed in a 2-1 defeat to Shamrock Rovers.
He also came on as the Bit O’Red were knocked out of the FAI Cup by Waterford in the quarter-finals.
Ireland will take on Estonia first on Wednesday, November 11, before meeting Wales on Saturday, November 14 and group hosts Denmark on Tuesday, November 17.
