There was music and spring sunshine in the air around Letterkenny as the town played host to the Donegal Fleadh last weekend.
After two years of lockdown restrictions, the Letterkenny Branch of Comhaltas hosted the Donegal event.
And it proved a wonderful success impromptu traditional sessions along Main Street, on Saturday and Sunday afternoon as well as evening sessions in many pubs and local hostelries.
The event got underway with the official launch on Friday evening in Dillon’s Hotel.
Fleadh competitions were held in the Atlantic Technological University, (formerly LYIT) from mid-morning on Saturday and there were a host of other events organised to co-incide with the weekend festival.
It was great to see so many visitors in town for the event and the good weather certainly added to their enjoyment.
There was also an online “share the tunes” competition where participants were encouraged to upload and share their session on Facebook and tag Fleadhlk.
The winners which were announced at the Youth traditional session in the Silver Tassie on Sunday included:
1st place: Caitríona Lagan, Dallan Davies, Fiadh Davies and Tony Finnerty
2nd place: Rhiana, Cliona and Cormac Mc Colgan
