Off the beaten track: A selection of stories from last week's championship

The Donegal SFC got underway last weekend in glorious sunshine with eight matches dotted around the county with the IFC and junior competitions seeing their second rounds of action. Here’s a look at some of the things that might have caught your attention

Making the breaks
One interesting facet of the weekend in the sweltering heat was the effects the reintroduction of the water breaks had on games - just like during the pandemic. Take for example at the Burn Road on Friday night where Termon held a slender 0-3 to 0-2 lead over Naomh Muire when the huddles were formed.

Fast-forward to half-time and it was 0-10 to 0-3 for the home team. Similarly at Magheragallon on Sunday when Gaoth Dobhair had just levelled things against Ardara at 0-2 apiece before the bottles were flung. By the interval, Gaoth Dobhair were 2-7 to 0-2 in front, with a noticeable pattern in their second quarter play being the willingness to go long. With Maor Uisces a thing of the past, some sides took full advantage in getting instructions across within the rules. AF
