Off the beaten track: A selection of stories from last week's championship

The Donegal SFC got underway last weekend in glorious sunshine with eight matches dotted around the county with the IFC and junior competitions seeing their second rounds of action. Here’s a look at some of the things that might have caught your attention

Stoppage time
“How long’s left?” The looks at the stopwatches seem to become more frequent - and more anxious - when the Championship balls are in play. You reckon there’s maybe “ah around a minute of normal time to go and whatever’s added.” And then the million dollar question: How long will he add?

It’s the old how long is a piece of string scenario. Having a similar conversation last weekend, someone raised a suggestion that is, surely, worth consideration. The LGFA utilise a countdown clock for Championship games that removes the discretion. Would the expense of installing such a system at club grounds really be so prohibitive? CMcN
