Off the Beaten Track - SFC top-scorers and IFC team of the week

Here’s a look at some of the things that might have caught your eye during the respective club championships matches - and anything else besides in the Donegal GAA world over the last week or so

Big Fellows top list
What odds would you have got on Hugh McFadden to be top of the scoring charts after four rounds of the senior championship? The big Killybegs man has got a new lease of life when moved to the edge of the square and tops the charts with 3-18 in his four games to date.

Thanks to the statistical work of Edward Molloy, there are some interesting aspects to the top scorers so far, not least that a good number are well-known target men. It has been a welcome factor in the games in the first four rounds with many teams using a big man inside to create scores.

Apart from the usual suspects like McFadden, Michael Murphy, Patrick McBrearty and Charles McGuinness, we have seen Gavin McBride used to good effect by Gaoth Dobhair; Matt Gillespie and Darren Drummond for Aodh Ruadh; Killian Faulkner for Four Masters, etc.

Hopefully, that trend will continue in the coming weeks in the quarter-finals and semi-finals.
The top seven on the scoring lists are:
Hugh McFadden (Killybegs) 3-18
Michael Murphy (Glenswilly) 2-18
Eoin McGeehin (St Eunan’s) 2-16
Patrick McBrearty (Kilcar) 1-18 (three games)
Charles McGuinness (Naomh Conaill) 5-5
Diarmaid McInerney (Aodh Ruadh) 1-16
Oisin Gallen (MacCumhaills) 1-16 -PC
