Seven things: Movies that were shot in Donegal

Due to the county's beautiful and unique landscape, Donegal has become an increasingly popular destination for some of Hollywood's finest

In the Land of Saints and Sinners 
In the Land of Saints and Sinners is a recent release starring Hollywood A-Lister Liam Neeson as the protagonist alongside Irish actors such as Jack Gleeson, Kerry Condon, and Ciaran Hinds.
The movie premiered at the Venice Film Festival on September 6, 2023. It is a thriller directed by Roberts Lorenz and released on Netflix.

The movie was filmed in the coastal town of Glencolmcille, Killybegs and Kilcar GAA club’s scenic home at Towney, and surrounding areas for two months. There are several scenes in the movie depicting some of the beautiful landscapes across south Donegal.

The movie depicts Liam Neeson playing a former assassin, Finbarr Murphy, as he moves west for a quieter life, attempting to leave violence in the past but soon he is forced into a game of cat and mouse with three terrorists on the run. The underlying theme of the film is political violence, as caused by The Troubles.
