Watch: 'Alright now pet?' - Re-elected Gerry McMonagle speaks to daughter in Aus

The Sinn Féin candidate's daughter Dearbhaile congratulated him on his success from the other side of the world

Councillor Gerry McMonagle spoke to his daughter in Australia minutes after finding out he has been re-elected to Donegal County Council. 

The Sinn Féin candidate surged over the line thanks to a massive distribution of 503 votes from eliminated candidate, Sandara Haughey. 

When asked if Dearbhaile voted for him, McMonagle said, "Of course she voted for me!" before laughing and stating, "Only joking!" 

Speaking to Dearbhaile, he quipped, "You must be tired after that long flight back!"
