The search is on for the next Donegal representative in the 2026 Rose of Tralee.

The Rose of Tralee International Festival has officially launched its search for both Roses and Rose Escorts. Anyone eligible can now begin sending in their applications in the hopes to take home the esteemed sash and trophy.

The current Donegal Rose is Niamh Shevlin, who has held the title since 2024. Niamh has a background as a professional Irish dancer, having toured the world as a lead dancer in Michael Flatley’s Riverdance. Niamh, now 28, started dancing at the young age of four. Along with her twin brother Gavin, they  performed globally as ‘The Shevlin Twins.’ In 2018, she joined Michael Flatley’s ‘Lord of the Dance,’ and performed the female lead role of ‘Saoirse’ for five years.

Niamh went on to be a primary school teacher having completed her final placement in Glenswilly National School, as well as completing her masters in primary school teaching with Hibernia College. Niamh was a perfect Rose to represent Donegal, the only question is, who will be the next Donegal woman that Niamh will have to pass her crown onto?

The Donegal Selection will take place on Saturday, May 16. To get in touch, contact donegalrosecentre@roseoftralee.ie

With Rose Selections taking place across more than 30 Rose Centres in Ireland and around the world in the coming months, applications are now open for those who want to begin their own Rose journey, from first-time applicants to those encouraged by friends, family or their local community to take the leap.

Speaking at the official launch, current Rose of Tralee Katelyn Cummins said: “If you’re even thinking about applying, I’d say go for it. The friendships, the confidence you gain, and the sense of pride in representing where you’re from is something really special”.

This festival has become a prominent event in Irish culture dating back from 1959, with Alice O'Sullivan from Dublin crowned the first Rose to win the event. Since then, it has transcended into a lively, colourful event, having most of the country tuning in each year.

The festival prides itself as a celebration of the young women of Ireland promoting their aspirations, ambitions, intellect, social responsibility, while promoting Irish heritage.

The Rose of Tralee 2026 International Festival will take place from August 14-18. A full list of Rose Selection events and application details can be found at www.roseoftralee.ie
