Bafta winning comic, Brendan O’Carroll has spoken of his and his son, Danny’s first meeting with his Donegal born daughter-in-law, Amanda Woods who also stars in the television sitcom, ‘Mrs. Brown’s Boys.’

Danny and Amanda - she hails from Manorcunningham - met in Letterkenny, the night before Brendan and his troupe were due to perform there.

“It was love at first sight. Danny was about 17 and working as crew and he had gone up the night before me. He rang me the next day asking where I was. I said, ‘Danny, I’m only in Cavan.’ Half an hour later, he rang saying, ‘Are you here yet?’. I said, ‘I’m only in Monaghan, will you relax.’ I arrived in Letterkenny and he announced, ‘I think I’ve met my Jenny. Her name is Amanda Woods and she’s the one for me.’

Speaking to ‘The Irish Mail on Sunday’, Brendan said Amanda had been a “fantastic influence” on his son.

“When they started dating, I said to him, ‘She’s a lovely girl but let me warn you in advance: Donegal girls don’t leave Donegal. ‘

He said. ‘I’ll put that right.’ He’s now happily living in Donegal.”

The couple have been married for six years and have two sons.
