Roisin Hegarty with her dad, Raymond, after she won the Irish U15 64kgs title
Donegal boxer Roisin Hegarty goes for a medal in the European U15 Championships in Montenegro today.
The Twin Towns Boxing Club teen, who is co-captain of the Irish squad, faces Mia Aleksa in a 63kgs quarter-final in Budva later today.
Hegarty, a four-time Irish champion, missed out on a medal last year in the European Schoolgirls Championships in Bosnia & Herzegovina. There, she was pipped by Ukraine’s Varvara Parshikova in a quarter-final clash.
Hegarty proudly flew the Irish tricolour with co-captain Zac Creighton at the opening ceremony on Friday night.
Now, she’s straight into the ring for a medal bout with Croatia’s Aleksa awaiting and a chance to get a place on the podium up for grabs.
Earlier this year, Hegarty won the Irish U15 64kgs title at the National Stadium.
Hegarty, a student at Loreto Secondary School, defeated Jessica Flanagan from Belfast in the final.
Hegarty won the Girl 1 51kgs title in 2023 and last year added the Girl 2 57kgs and Junior Cadet 60kgs crowns.
