Recently-crowned European U15 champion Roisin Hegarty and Irish Youth kingpin Caoimhin Connolly top the bill on Friday night as the Twin Towns Boxing Club hosts a big boxing show at Jackson’s Hotel.
Hegarty, who has just returned from a history-making voyage to Montenegro, where she won the European U15 63kgs title.
The Letterkenny teenager defeated Ukrainian opponent Tetiana Zvenihorodska and became the first Donegal female to win a European gold in the process.
A four-time Irish champion, Hegarty will face Ulster champion Ashling Greene from Dealgan BC in what promises to be one of the night’s standout contests in a Girl 3 bout.
Connolly, who fought an amateur exhibition on the Rumble In The Hills, Rising Stars show at the Aura Leisure Centre in Letterkenny last month, will also feature on Friday night.
Connolly is down to take on M Brown from Limerick in a Youth 2 clash.
In January, Connolly overcame Kurt Kinsella to land the National Youth 48kgs title at the National Stadium and he recently won gold in the Youth 50kgs section of the Boxam Junior/Youth Tournament in Spain.
The Anderson name continues to course through the Twin Towns BC veins. Brian Anderson and Jack Anderson, both Ulster champions from the Twin Towns stable - and grandsons of Brian Anderson who boxed for Ireland at the 1964 Olympics - are set for tough tests against Dealgan BC’s Jack Flanagan and P.J. Harper respectively.
