A vehicle with its tax expired for six years was seized in Donegal on Tuesday while another motorist was arrested for drug-driving.

Officers from the Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit conducted a series multi-agency checkpoints with the RSA and Customs.

One vehicle was on the road with its tax having expired in 2018. The commercial vehicle roadworthiness test (CVRT) on the same vehicle had expired in 2020.

The vehicle was seized and fixed charge penalty notices will issue to the driver.

Another motorist in the area was arrested on suspicion of drug-driving. Analysis of further tests are now awaited by gardai.

A spokesperson said: “Our checkpoints will continue. We ask all road users to ensure that their documentation is in order before driving. Never drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.”
