Man remanded after extradition from Slovenia over Letterkenny burglaries

A man has been extradited from Slovenia to face burglary charges in Donegal.

Raymond Lacatos appeared before Letterkenny District Court having been the subject of a European Arrest Warrant extradition.

Lacatos, a 40-year-old of no fixed abode, has been remanded in custody.

Lacatos is charged with an offence on May 15, 2018 at  Asian Food Store, Drumnahoagh, Letterkenny. He is accused that he did, having entered the building as a trespasser, commit an arrestable offence to wit theft therein.

The charge is contrary to Section 12(1)(b) and (3) of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act 2001.

Lacatos faces similar charges in relation to Riverside View Apartments, Pearse Road, Letterkenny on June 10, 2018; Mr Chippie Takeaway, Ramelton Road, Letterkenny on September 14, 2018; a private residence at Plunkett O’Boyle Road, Letterkenny, on October 30, 2020; and at Curiosity Corner, Upper Main Street, Letterkenny on March 13, 2023.

Evidence of the arrest, charge and caution of Lacatos was given by Detective Garda Cathal Feely.

Lacatos’s solicitor, Mr Rory O’Brien, said that a High Court bail application is “underway” for his client.

The matter was adjourned for the service of a book of evidence.
