The Singer and instrumentalist Cathal Ó Curráin received the award for Best Emerging Artist at the 2022 Radio 1 Fok Awards which were announced last night, Thursday, at an event in Vicar Street.
Among the other worthy recipients of awards were singer Mary Black who received the Lifetime achievement award; Paddy Molloney was posthumously inducted into the RTÉ hall of fame and Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh won two awards for best singer and best traditional folk track.
The Gaoth Dobhair singer, songwriter and musician hails from an exceptionally musical family. Cathal grew up playing music and singing at national and secondary level schools and was central to An Crannóg - a musical group that has received huge recognition.
The young performer is the director of Scoil Gheimhridh in Gaoth Dobhair.
