A special event to commemorate the late Thomas Alcorn will be staged at the Alcorns Flower and Garden Centre, his son, John, told a service of thanksgiving in Ramelton on Thursday last.

A large congregation packed into St. Paul’s Church for the service which was conducted by Canon Harry Gilmore who was assisted by Fr. Joe O’Donnell.

The late Mr. Alcorn was behind the setting up of the well known garden centre at Loughnagin, Letterkenny, over thirty years ago.

Addressing the congregation, John Alcorn, highlighted his father’s devotion to the business and to his family. He had lived long enough to see the opening of the Tropical World project at the centre, a unique development in the country.

They would, he added, be holding a special event at the centre to remember him by in the foreseeable future.

Canon Gilmore also acknowledged the contribution of Mr. Alcorn to the local community.

Deceased, who was predeceased by his wife Martha and is survived by his sons, John, Clive and Robert, and daughter, Caroline, along with a sister, daughters-in-law and grandchildren, was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.
