Garda Superintendent issues warning on crime

A Garda Superintendent has warned that people are going to have to take a lot more personal care after confirming the arrests of a number of suspects relating to burglaries in Buncrana.

Supt. Eugene McGovern based at Buncrana District Headquarters said, “We are presently questioning two suspects in relation to a number of thefts from cars, burglaries and criminal damage which occurred on Friday last mainly in the Cloncool Park area.

“These were localised crimes and we are happy for the injured parties that we have been able to carry out early arrests. They will feel much more secure now.

“We are not linking these incidents to the other horrific crimes on elderly people over the last week.”

The Superintendent added, “I must add that I can never stop reminding people to exercise extreme care in relation to their own personal safety and property.

“Regrettably people will still leave the house unlocked, a window open or the car unlocked. These are pure invitations to those with criminal intent.

“One of the biggest incidents of crimes in this area at present is the theft of oil - I really would ask people to exercise a lot more vigilance.

“Crime prevention is a lot more effective than crime detection.”
