Killian Faulkner - Four Masters will continue to improve

Four Masters' Killian Faulkner.

Killian Faulkner feels Four Masters are a side whose trajectory is pointing up after he helped his team to their first SFC victory at the weekend.

Speaking after his side’s 2-9 to 2-6 win away to Dungloe, the lively attacker said it was no more than the Donegal Town men deserved.

“It was a tough game and we had a horrible start,” he said. “We went 2-2 to 0-0 down, which meant they were eight points up and things did not look too great.

“It was great to come out in the second half and go at them as best we could. We are a young side and we should be running at teams really and bring the game to them.

“That’s how you break lines and win frees. That was the main message from our management.”

Faulkner added that it was important to banish the blues of last week’s defeat to Aodh Ruadh in a contest that was widely described as a snoozed fest.

“This was a much better display and we created a lot of chances against Aodh Ruadh. But did not take them and we wanted to right the wrongs of last week and show that we can get scores.

“This is a very young team but we are very hungry and you saw young Seanan Carr today. His desire to get on the ball at all times and want to have no regrets leaving here, was impressive.

“We have some very good underage teams coming through, but in this team we have some leaders like Caolan Loughney, Sean McKiernan, Oisin Reid and keeper Ryan Haughey.”

When asked about his own second-half wonder goal, he said: “I gave a ball away in the first half so it was nice to try and make up for that mistake. I missed one earlier and I wanted to make amends and I was nervous, I must admit.

“I was thinking of rounding the keeper as I was not going to shoot. And thankfully it went in and it was needed at the time.”

And he saluted the team’s fighting spirit.

“We have that spirit in the team and we are a very united bunch and everybody gets on well together.

“And our manager Kevin Sinclair is not quiet but he gets things done and we have all bought into him and his management team”.
