A man has pleaded guilty to the unlawful assault of a woman in Stranorlar.

Joseph Gallagher appeared before Letterkenny Circuit Court this week.

The 35-year-old, with an address of Ardnawark, Barnesmore, is charged with unlawfully assaulting a woman at Meetinghouse Street, Stranorlar, on August 15, 2021.

The accused was formally arraigned at Letterkenny courthouse.  Gallagher spoke only to plead guilty during the short hearing.

State prosecutor Ms Patricia McLaughlin BL told the court that the plea was accepted by the State.

Barrister for Gallagher, Mr Damien Crawford BL, asked that a probation and welfare report be prepared.

Judge John Aylmer adjourned the case until the October sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court and directed that the probation and welfare report include an assessment on Gallagher’s suitability for community service.
