One of the three victims of Thursday’s horrific crash near Aughnacloy in County Tyrone was the mother of a young Raphoe Boxing Club boxer.

Christine McKane, the mother of Raphoe BC boxer Danny Duffy, was killed along with her brother Dan McKane and their aunt Julia McSorley.

The three, who are from Strabane, were traveling from from a family funeral in England on Thursday morning when they minibus in which they were traveling collided with a lorry.

The collision occurred on the A5 Tullyvar Road with four others sustaining serious injuries.

Raphoe Boxing Club will be closed on Friday night as a mark of respect.

The club conveyed it’s ‘deepest sympathy’ to young boxer Danny - a gold medalist at the Donegal Open Championships earlier this year - and the extended family.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Danny and the families at this very sad time,” Raphoe Boxing Club said.

Strabane PP Fr Declan Boland said the tragedy has stunned the local community.

"The community are struggling to comprehend what is happening. We have to face into the horror of the bodies coming home and then the funerals," he told the BBC.

“The local community are standing supporting them very strongly, coming and going, bringing sandwiches – lots of tears, lots of hugs, lots of prayers, lots of little groups outside the house quietly paying their respects. Just doing what they can at this time.”
