The popular Holiday World Show 2024 is an annual event that takes place in the RDS, Dublin from Friday 26 - Sunday January 28, 2024, members of the Lifford Stranorlar Municipal District were informed at their January monthly meeting.

But some local councillors highlighted that they wanted more information of what was actually happening from their own MD in reports presented that carried an all county remit, than specifically their own MD.

And in the case of the new county wide tourism brochure, that had just gone to print, and would be available at the Show, it was also queried as to what was actually being highlighted from their own part of the county.

The show in Dublin is expected to attract over 550 exhibitors, with 40,000 attendees, Breid Neely Senior Staff Officer, from the IS Department said.

Donegal Tourism Unit have invested in purchasing their own stand and branding for this event and this will also be utilised at future promotional events.

She said that fifteen local providers will be exhibiting and promoting their business alongside Donegal Tourism at the Holiday World Show stand.

The DCC Tourism Unit are liaising with the show organisers in relation to PR in advance of the show and securing prizes for the show competition.

Members were also informed that the new Tourism Brochure 2024 would be ready for Holiday World 2024 at the end of January and had gone to print.

But, Cllr Gary Doherty (Sinn Féin) asked to get to see the brochure as soon as possible, as he wanted to see what exactly was being highlighted within the brochure, to promote attractions within their own MD.

Cllr Paddy McGowan (Fianna Fáil) said that at the last meeting, they had requested more details to appear in reports that pertained to the Stranorlar - Lifford MD itself

He said: “Just at our last meeting there, we were asking for more detail on more local issues that were affecting us - you said there were 15 local business, is that county wide or within the Stranorlar (MD), when you say the local, the difference between this being a county wide meeting and this is the local meeting, so is there any businesses from the Stranorlar-Lifford MD in attendance?”

Ms Neely said that she would confirm what businesses would be in attendance that came from the Lifford Stranorlar MD area, but that the 15 businesses in question, would be from throughout the county, that would be in attendance.

The meeting was also told that Donegal Tourism will attend the launch of Tourism Ireland’s Marketing Plans for 2024 in January which will give an insight into the year ahead, there will also be an opportunity to attend one-to-one workshops with their overseas business exchange staff.
