Buncrana hit three goals to edge out Carndonagh in SHC derby win

Goals win matches as Buncrana proved in a closely contested encounter against their neighbours Carndonagh at The Scarvey.
Carn, who were minus Luke White, who is doing voluntary work in Africa, the injured Cathal Doherty, and his brother Padraig had to come off at the break, battled well with Darragh McCormick accurate from placed balls.
Buncrana had a fair amount of the play, but hasty shooting resulted in 15 wides with three shots dropping short, while Carn was more economical with their chances and had seven wides over the hour.
The visitors led by 0-9 to 2-2 at the break, the bulk of their scoring coming from McCormick, who hit three points with two coming from placed balls.
Paul Kelly, Michael McCarron, Danny Monagle, Eoghan Kelly, Michael Noone and Cian Doherty were also scorers in that opening half.
Buncrana responded with two first half goals from Gavin Deehan and Daniel Deery, with their points coming from Dylan Duffy and Kevin O’Rourke.
Buncrana had the wind in the second half and Caolan O’Neill converted three frees, while Duffy hit the net and Daniel Deery, Jack O’Loughlin, and Peter Grant hit the final points.
Carn, playing into the breeze, had five points in a hard-fought second half, with three of them coming from pointed frees from McCormick and two points from play from Cian Doherty.
