James O'Donoghue up against Paddy McGrath and Karl Lacey back in 2014
Former Kerry ace James O’Donoghue says he cannot fathom why Donegal and Meath are turning out in their home kits in Sunday’s All-Ireland SFC semi-final.
The ex-Kingdom ace recalls 2014’s encounter with Donegal when both teams lined out in their first-choice jerseys.
And with Croke Park set to be a sell-out sea of green and gold O’Donoghue, speaking with Paddy Andrews on the Football Pod, says it has the potential to cause issues for both sets of players.

“It’s a clash,” said O’Donoghue. “I remember 2014, I swear to god it was just green and gold everywhere.
“We requested blue and were declined. We played the semi-final in blue. So we both played in green and gold.
“The Cusack, the Hogan and the Hill are green and gold as well. It’s impossible to see what’s going on. And your goalkeeper would have to have his wits about him”.
When Andrew pressed his podcast colleague on whether the sun, coupled with that kit clash had any impact on Paul Durcan’s stray knockout to Kieran Donaghy, that yielded a second Kerry goal, he said: “Possibly, I genuinely don’t know.
“It could have been”.
