Daire Sweeney’s eight-point haul fires Ballyboden to Dublin SFC title

Sweeney's dad Maurice hails from Bunbeg and both men continue to keep a very close eye on Gaoth Dobhair's fortunes with the pair even travelling up to Letterkenny a fortnight ago to watch them in the Donegal SFC decider

Daire Sweeney’s eight-point haul fires Ballyboden to Dublin SFC title

Daire Sweeney lands one of his eight points in Sunday's Dublin SFC final

Daire Sweeney was the difference-maker at Parnell Park on Sunday, landing a superb eight points as Ballyboden St Enda’s claimed their fifth Dublin SFC crown and first since 2019 with a deserved win over Na Fianna.

Sharpshooter Sweeney, whose dad dad Maurice hails from Bunbeg, was flawless from placed balls with all but one of his contribution coming from frees.

The sides were level at 0-09 apiece after 43 minutes, but when Ballyboden found their rhythm, there was no stopping them.

Cein D’Arcy struck the crucial goal in the 53rd minute to open up a seven-point gap that Boden later stretched to nine.

Alongside Sweeney’s accuracy, Colm Basquel was instrumental,  scoring two points and winning numerous frees that Sweeney coolly converted in a contest that ended 1-16 to 1-12.

Sweeney is a regular visitor back to the north west and was present in Letterkenny a fortnight ago with his dad as Naomh Conaill edged Gaoth Dobhair in the Donegal SFC decider.

He also attended Cúl Camps as a youngster in Magheragallon where he was coached by Eamon McGee.
