Termon ace Ciara McGarvey expects ferocious SFC battle

Termon celebrate their league title win.

Ciara McGarvey says Termon’s battle to hold onto their Donegal LGFA Senior Football Championship crown will be as ferocious as ever.

McGarvey was in fine scoring form for the Burn Road side in MacCumhaill Park as they comfortably accounted for Naomh Conaill in the Division 1 decider on a scoreline of 3-11 to 1-5.

Adrian McGettigan’s girl held a 0-7 to 0-1 lead at the midpoint in Ballybofey but with Donegal stars Emer Gallagher and Nicole McLaughlin coming into the fray for the second stanza, Termon eventually eased to victory.

“We’re happy out,” said McGarvey who hit 0-8 of Termon’s winning tally. “We certainly didn’t underestimate Naomh Conaill this afternoon.

“They’re an up and coming side and to make it through to a Division 1 decider should be viewed as massive progress. They are definitely a club on the real up. They’re only going to get better moving forward. At training this week, we’d only one objective and that was to win.

“It’s really pleasing to see that the attitude we intended to come in here with was there. I know we didn’t start with the likes of Nicole and Emer but when they came in they made a serious difference”.

Termon have now not only held onto their league crown but, McGarvey explains, they’ve also bolstered options in the process.

“The aim is to always add a few more faces into the mix. The likes of Niamh Bonner and Maeve Brady have put their hands up and there are more right behind them. I know they’re only 16-years-old but they want to step up and be involved.  That’s a great sign”.

Termon’s SFC group will consist of St Eunan’s, Moville and Ardara. McGarvey says that the team’s league title win will be celebrated but that a line will quickly be drawn from the start of  the week on.

“We’ll turn our attention now to championship more or less straight away. We want to bring it home once again. We have close to a full panel and that’s great. We have Geraldine McLaughlin to come back in and the likes of Orla Corry also. So we’re happy enough with how things are shaping up.

We have St Eunan’s, Moville and Ardara in our section. That won’t be easy. So we’ll enjoy this. But like I said, from Tuesday on we’ll shift the focus to all of that”.
