Gaoth Dobhair's Eamon McGee.
Gaoth Dobhair veteran Eamon McGee (39) was more than happy to make Aodh Ruadh favourites ahead of their long trip to Ballyshannon this evening.
Speaking after his side’s impressive opening 1-16 to 0-11 SFC victory over MacCumhaills in Mageragallon, the 2012 All-Ireland winner said it would be a pretty difficult assignment.
“We saw John McNulty there today from Aodh Ruadh getting a free look at us. They are an up-and-coming team and people would say that we are on the way down. They really put it up to us last year and they will be gunning for us.”
He agreed that McNulty’s team was “very defensive.”
“Yes, they are but they are also very fit and very well-conditioned and they are very well organised.
“So it is not just about getting men back. They know what they are about and in fairness to McNulty, he has put a good team together and the lads have really bought into it.
“I would be making them favourites as they should have beaten us in the championship last year when we only got through by a point”.
When asked if the return of Odhran MacNiallais, Micheal Carroll, Cian Mulligan and the imminent return of Daire Ó Baoill means that the ‘Class of 2018 are back, he sounded a note of caution.
“We are a bit away from that and we are just happy to get through as we were very nervous coming into this game as any team with Oisin Gallen and Joel Bradley Walsh is bound to be dangerous and Oisin put on an exhibition there today.
“So, it was good to get the result, but there is stuff to work on as well.”
