Killybegs and MacCumhaills will be difficult to separate - Manus Boyle

Killybegs travel to Ballybofey this evening.

Manus Boyle and Killybegs will be targeting a first SFC group stage win when they go to MacCumhaills this evening.

The Fishermen were defeated 3-12 to 1-5 in their opening encounter in Fintra last weekend by reigning champions Naomh Conaill. But 1992 legend Boyle says this is a contest his young team can win.

“Apart from Naomh Conaill and St Eunan’s, with the greatest of respect to everyone else, we are all playing catch up - they are the benchmark.

“Kilcar and Gaoth Dobhair are after that in the pecking order. But outside of that anyone can beat anyone, I feel. Ourselves and MacCumhaill’s could be quite a battle.

“We will have to be wary of Oisin Gallen who is a deadly scoring threat, and they also have Joel Bradley Walsh and Kevin McCormick to take scores.

“They are a physical side and they are at home, but our focus will be on getting ourselves right after a crushing defeat like that.

“You have to get everybody’s head right and hopefully you get the reaction you are looking for”.

On that pretty comprehensive defeat to a deadly clinical Naomh Conaill side, Boyle said: “Naomh Conaill are not county champions for nothing and all the players that either started or were taken on, have county championship medals.

“Their past county players were excellent and Leo McLoone looked well and they moved the ball well and never panicked after getting a poor start. They were excellent throughout.”
