Murphy and Lacey sign autographs at an open day ahead of the 2014 All-Ireland final
Michael Murphy has placed former teammate Karl Lacey in his top three bracket of Best Backs in the Business’.
Speaking on the latest episode of Ratified on GAAGO, the 2012 All-Ireland winning captain also selected Kerry great Tomás Ó Sé as well as Dublin’s six-time All-Ireland winner Jack McCaffrey.
“Karl’s highlights reel would be so varied,” Murphy explained. “He was a top corner back when we were struggling. He took the best players out of the game back then, even won All-Stars in that time.
“Jim McGuinness then seen something in him where he moved him out to centre half back. And he just started bombing from there. He would end up with four All-Stars and a Player of the Year.
“For me, he could do it all. Injuries caught him towards the end but he was just phenomenal. His foot work was just exceptional.
“You never seen Karl falling or slipping and sliding”.
