Aofh Ruadh have moved quickly following the shock resignation of senior football boss Conor Cunningham by installing Maurice MacLaughlin as his replacement.

The Ballyshannon men are facing into a huge erlegation/promotion play-off battle with Termon this weekend

Kilcar native Cunningham stepped down on Monday, two days after his side lost out to Realt na Mara, Bundoran on Saturday afternoon in a league game they needed to win.

Another Kilcar man, John McNulty, had been in charge for two seasons before stepping down at the end of last year when Aodh Ruadh lost out to St Eunan’s in the championship quarter-final.

The appointment of his successor took some time with Cunningham taking over at the beginning of March, much later than most other clubs.

Successor McLaughlin is the current Fermanagh U-20 boss and previously managed the Fr Tierney outfit from 2012 to 2014.

It’s understood that Philip O’Reilly and Greg Sweeney will form part of his backroom team.
